About .org.in domains
.org.in combines the non-profit meaning of .org with India's country code. For a charitable trust in Pune, a village education project or a residents' welfare association, it signals two things at once: this is an organisation, not a shop, and it works in India.
It is a good primary domain for NGOs, foundations, societies and Section 8 companies whose donors and volunteers are mostly in India, and a sensible companion if you already run a .org site. Because it is less crowded than .org, you are more likely to get your organisation's full name or a clear abbreviation. The usual NIXI rules apply: registrants complete identity verification and privacy services are not available, which suits organisations that want to be open about who runs them. Register it in the organisation's name where possible, so the domain stays with the trust or society when office-bearers change.
Good to know
- Part of the .in family managed by NIXI. Intended for non-profit organisations, but registration is open to all.
- NIXI requires identity verification (eKYC) for every registrant.
- Privacy and proxy services are not permitted for .in family domains.
- Registering in the organisation's name rather than a volunteer's personal name avoids ownership disputes later.

Web hosting with free SSL, one-click WordPress and nightly backups. Same price every year.
Anyone can register one; you do not have to prove non-profit status. It makes most sense for NGOs, trusts, societies and community groups based in India.
Use .org.in if your supporters are mainly in India and you want a local signal. Use .org if you work internationally. Many organisations register both and redirect one to the other.
Yes. Like all .in domains, it tells Google your site targets India, which can help for local searches. Good content and regular updates matter far more than the extension.
